All-American Juicy Skillet-Seared Cheeseburger with Melty Cheddar

       Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for best juiciness)
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or butter
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • Optional: pickles

Instructions

  • Preheat a heavy skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  • Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently shape into patties, slightly wider than the buns.
  • Season both sides of each patty with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Add oil or butter to the hot skillet, then place the patties in the pan.
  • Cook for 3–4 minutes per side, flipping once, until a crust forms and the burgers reach desired doneness.
  • Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover briefly to melt.
  • Lightly toast the burger buns in the same skillet until golden.
  • Assemble burgers by layering lettuce, tomato, onion, cheesy patty, ketchup, mustard, and pickles if using.
  • Serve immediately while hot and juicy.
